December 2009 and January 2010 Newsletter

CLUB MATTERS

I have been informed with the sad news that another past member & chairman of the club namely Ren Colyn is currently battling with an illness. We wish him the very best for a speedy recovery & our thoughts are with you & your family during these trying times.

The club is has now got its own web page thanks to Eric Nienaber & his company WallSpace. The address is www.atlanticboatclub.co.za

We take this opportunity to welcome the following new members to the club...Stuart Anderson:  Reinier Van den Berg:  Paul Rutzen:  Ray Moore and George Lumb. We trust the club will provide an adequate service & that you enjoy the facilities provided.

OPEN  again on a SUNDAY  from 3:00pm.Please support the bar as it is a pointless exercise in opening if nobody is going to arrive for drinks.

The club bar & seating area is now “SMOKE FREE” which is in accordance with the new smoking legislation.

We would really like to see all the “non smoking members” that mentioned they would now support the club more frequently because of this change.

Please ensure all smokers abide by this rule & support the committee & management on implementation.

During the festive season  the club will be CLOSED on 25 & 26 December namely Christmas Day & Boxing day & also on Friday 1 January 2010 New Years Day.

Annual Boat Surveys

1. Chris Jacobs will be available either on the Saturday 16 January or the  Sunday 17 January 2010 at the club (depends on which day we have the Kreef Derby – if we have it on Saturday then the surveys will be done on the Sunday and vice versa if we have the derby on Sunday) to handle all ABC boats that need there 2010 survey done.

2. Chris has kindly made his own time available so therefore we would like all boat owners that want their surveys done to contact the club and book their respective boats in for the day. THIS MUST BE DONE BY THURSDAY 14 JANUARY by email to the club as confirmation.

3. All league boats must obtain their 2010 SADSAA disc’s for the new season.

4. By doing a combined day the survey price will be discounted.

Every Wednesday is the “promo drinks hour” and snacks. Unfortunately the new “Lucky Raffle Ticket Draw” has not been successful so I will have to think of something more appropriate to get you guys to come along and support.

The ever popular month end galley STEAK or RIB evening will be on FRIDAY 29 JANUARY 2010.

Many members are just arriving at the meal evening without notifying the club.   Please we cannot guarantee a meal if you have not booked as we only order in a certain amount of stock

We would like to wish the following members who’s birthdays we have on record are in DECEMBER & JANUARY a  “Happy birthday “on this special day…and we hope you will share your celebrations at the club amongst your fellow members on the day.

CLUB FISHING&COMPETITIONS

The annual Yzerfontein Snoek Classic will be held on the weekend of the 18 & 19 December 2009.Please give them your support.

HBBO - MARINA MATTERS

Any problems or suggestions on the marina please do not hesitate to contact Chris immediately at the club.

We have designed and manufactured a “trolley” with a fish bin for the purpose of offloading fish more practically on the marina. All boat owners are requested to use this if off loading on the marina.

We have just completed our next repair & maintenance schedule by housing the entire wiring system to the marina & electrical boxes in conduit piping. This should assist with the electrolyse problem. The electricians have also blanked OFF the live wires that were exposed in the power boxes.

CONCLUSION

Last month’s newsletter reflected on a new member (relatively new now!!) still having to complete the traditional “initiation swim”.....however it was reported that he did his number off the marina again!!!! When will he learn??

Also on good authority another member apparently caused a tsunami in the Keurbooms river outside Plett whilst partying at another members 50th.After consuming an “all fall down” amount of Cpt’s out of a jar he apparently hit the deck with such force ( he is only 5’6” but weighs 130 +) that it created a mini tremor in the campsite. It even woke Kenny up!!!

He is known for his sea lawyer antics but has the tendency to be late again.

Have a great festive season & take care on the roads. I will catch up with you all in the new year.

Chris
