October 09 News Letter

ATLANTIC BOAT CLUB – OCTOBER 2009 NEWSLETTER

CLUB MATTERS

On an extremely sad note I must inform all that Bruce Cook passed away suddenly last Friday 2 October due to illness.

Our sincere condolences go to the family from management, committee and all the club members.

A memorial service will be held at the ABC clubhouse from 11:00am on Saturday 10 October.

I would also like to take this opportunity in wishing Keith Coetzee a speedy recovery from an illness he is currently facing. Our thoughts are with you and we hope to see you back in the club soon.

The club will be OPENING again on a SUNDAY. As from 11 October the club will open from 3:00pm only for drinks.

The club bar & seating area is now “SMOKE FREE” which is in accordance with the new smoking legislation. Unfortunately the time has come that the club has to abide by the law, or face heavy penalties.

An inside room has been sectioned off for all the smokers to utilise & the outside patio area is also available for all the puffers.

Please ensure all smokers abide by this rule & support the committee & management on implementation.

ATTENTION ALL BOAT OWNERS..Ken Owen is selling a Furuno Navnet VX2 system...10.4” screen,colour LCD..GPS,Radar & Echo...for an absolute bargain..Anyone interested is to please contact him on 083 272 6195.

Every Wednesday is the new “Lucky Raffle Ticket Draw”. Unfortunately over the past couple of weeks we have not had sufficient support from the members to do a draw but we will persist and hopefully carry on with this event. The draw is done on the same night and the lucky ticket holder drawn must be present and will take home a special “hamper” of goods.

The ever popular month end galley evening will be on FRIDAY 30 OCTOBER. We will be doing a STEAK evening & need volunteers to do the grilling.

Please understand that when one books beforehand it is purely to gage the numbers for catering only. The seating requirements for the smaller groups have to be arranged on arrival and unfortunately have to be shared as we only have seven groups of tables.

Also on these evenings, members are trying to reply or book via the SMS sent. Please phone the club to book as the SMS is sent through a group provider and not the club.

Lastly on the subject, many members are just arriving at the meal evening without notifying the club. Please we cannot guarantee a meal if you have not booked as we only order in a certain amount of stock

We would like to wish the following members who’s birthdays we have on record are in October a  “Happy birthday “on this special day…and we hope you will share your celebrations at the club amongst your fellow members on the day.

HBBO - MARINA MATTERS

The new marina office is now completed.

Any problems or suggestions on the marina please do not hesitate to contact Chris immediately at the club.

The HBBO shareholders agreement and articles of association have now been finalised and adopted for signature.

All marina owners to sign off the signatory form and returned to our offices soonest.

The new set of “house rules” has been circulated. If any boat owner has not got a copy please get one from the office. All persons entering the marina must be aware of them, as they will be enforced.

Any boat owner that has not got a remote for the gate is to please purchase one from the office. WE ARE TRYING DESPARATELY TO KEEP THE GATE LOCKED AT ALL TIMES....NO REMOTE ...NO ENTRY...

The 6 monthly levies invoices have been sent out for the period September 2009 to end February 2010.All owners are requested to pay timously as they are payable in advance.

The Directors and management have reviewed the levies and the good news is that the levies for this  period have decreased...the new rates will be invoiced

All rental boats are requested to pay the monthly rental in advance by the 25th of the month.

It was also agreed at the AGM to allow a .70c per litre rebate on diesel purchases to all existing marina owners & long term rental vessels. The onus is on the individual boat owner to make this deduction on settlement of the purchase.

We have designed and manufactured a “trolley” with a fish bin for the purpose of offloading fish more practically on the marina. All boat owners are requested to use this if off loading on the marina.

We have just completed our next repair & maintenance schedule by housing the entire wiring system to the marina & electrical boxes in conduit piping. This should assist with the electrolyse problem. The electricians have also blanked OFF the live wires that were exposed in the power boxes.
