ATLANTIC BOAT CLUB –NOVEMBER 2009 NEWSLETTER

CLUB MATTERS

On an extremely sad note another member of the club namely Keith Coetzee passed away due to  illness during the month of October.

Our sincere condolences go to the family from management, committee and all the club members.

   -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The club is  OPEN  again on a SUNDAY  from 3:00pm.Please support the bar as it is a pointless exercise in opening if nobody is going to arrive for drinks.

The club bar & seating area is now “SMOKE FREE” which is in accordance with the new smoking legislation.

We would really like to see all the members that mentioned they would now support the club more frequently because of this change.

Please ensure all smokers abide by this rule & support the committee & management on implementation.

During the festive season  the club will be CLOSED on 25 & 26 December namely Christmas Day & Boxing day & also on Friday 1 January 2010 New Years Day.

Every Wednesday is the new “Lucky Raffle Ticket Draw”. Unfortunately over the past couple of weeks we have not had sufficient support from the members to do a draw but we will persist and hopefully carry on with this event. The draw is done on the same night and the lucky ticket holder drawn must be present and will take home a special “hamper” of goods.

The ever popular month end galley evening will be on FRIDAY 27 NOVEMBER. We will be doing a RIBS evening .

Many members are just arriving at the meal evening without notifying the club. Please we cannot guarantee a meal if you have not booked as we only order in a certain amount of stock

We would like to wish the following members who’s birthdays we have on record are in NOVEMBER a  “Happy birthday “on this special day…and we hope you will share your celebrations at the club amongst your fellow members on the day.

CLUB FISHING&COMPETITIONS

The Two Oceans Tuna Derby was fished on the first day 4 November and only 3 fish were landed. Unfortunately that’s how the derby ended due to the inclement weather conditions.

Congratulations to Eric Nienaber on Scramouche on winning the derby with a yellowfin of 26kg.

Second prize went to Delta 1 Graham George & his crew.

The heaviest LongFin went to boat Linda from Yzerfontein with a sizable fish of 18kg.

A very big THANK YOU to Mark Delany of Two Oceans and Yamaha & Furuno for their very kind sponsorship for first, second & third prizes once again.

Also to all the other co sponsors & individual members whose valuable contributions made a hugh  impact on the overall derby & prize giving.

Special mention must go to the new members from the Texies group Fernando & Robyn whose generous sponsorship & involvement in the derby was simply magic.

Members of the club must realise the importance of these generous sponsorship offers as the club will not function during these tournaments without it.

Despite only fishing one day overall, the clubs bar turnover & funds generated from the derby still exceeded all expectations due to the fantastic support from all during the derby.

The clubs annual Kreef derby will be held on the 16 January 2010.We have managed to secure a sponsor for the event, namely Johan van den Berg from Boats 4 Africa. We thank Johan for his generous sponsorship & am sure we will have a great derby.More detail to follow in the next newsletter.

The annual Yzerfontein Snoek Classic will be held on the weekend of the 18 & 19 December 2009.Please give them your support.

HBBO - MARINA MATTERS

Any problems or suggestions on the marina please do not hesitate to contact Chris immediately at the club.

The HBBO shareholders agreement and articles of association have now been finalised and adopted for signature.

All marina owners to sign off the signatory form and returned to our offices soonest.

The new set of “house rules” has been circulated. If any boat owner has not got a copy please get one from the office. All persons entering the marina must be aware of them, as they will be enforced.

The 6 monthly levies invoices have been sent out for the period September 2009 to end February 2010.All owners are requested to pay timously as they are payable in advance.

The Directors and management have reviewed the levies and the good news is that the levies for this  period have decreased...the new rates will be invoiced

All rental boats are requested to pay the monthly rental in advance by the 25th of the month.

It was also agreed at the AGM to allow a .70c per litre rebate on diesel purchases to all existing marina owners & long term rental vessels. The onus is on the individual boat owner to make this deduction on settlement of the purchase.

We have designed and manufactured a “trolley” with a fish bin for the purpose of offloading fish more practically on the marina. All boat owners are requested to use this if off loading on the marina.

We have just completed our next repair & maintenance schedule by housing the entire wiring system to the marina & electrical boxes in conduit piping. This should assist with the electrolyse problem. The electricians have also blanked OFF the live wires that were exposed in the power boxes.

CONCLUSION

Certain new members often have to face the traditional “INITIATION” when they take bets or brag on what size fish they will catch.

Certain new members have to face the traditional initiation “swim” in the harbour when they are still “mombak”.

Certain new members are let off the swim because they have contacted a cold.

Certain new members then try a keep up with the “big” boys after a successful kreef day.

Certain new members then fail to negotiate the marina walkway after trying to keep up with the  “big” boys

Certain new member has now voluntary done his swim (thats what he thinks...wait until HotLine get hold of him) as he managed to stumble into the water off the marina after trying to keep up with the “big” boys.

NO NAMES NO PACK DRILL BUT THIS “NEW” MEMBER ( named after one of the big 5) KNOWS HE WILL STILL SWIM!!!...AGAIN

THANK YOU I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE READING
